Netflix today shared a trove of teasers for some of the most-anticipated movies and TV shows coming to the platform in 2024. One of the highly awaited releases this year is the second season of Squid Game, the South Korean TV series. To further hype up the fans, Netflix has shared a first look at Squid Game Season 2.
The streaming company posted a short 18-second clip from Squid Game 2 on X (formerly Twitter). It continues from where the first season ended, showing the protagonist Gi-hun exiting the airport. Yes, if you watched the first season, you’d remember that he decided not to take the flight to the U.S. and rejoin the games instead.
While exiting the airport, Gi-hun receives a call from the Front Man, who warns him of the consequences of his decision. However, Gi-hun seems resolute in taking revenge on those running the games. This is exactly what Squid Game Season 2 will have in store for us; the tale of revenge, a chase to find answers, and possibly, getting closure.
Alongside the short teaser, Netflix shared a few stills from Squid Game Season 2. You can see the Front Man with his mask, the recruiter, Gun-hi back in the game, and a brand-new character played by Park Gyu-young.
Other cast members (with undisclosed character roles) for Season 2 are Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, and more. South Korean film director Hwang Dong-hyuk is the director and writer for Season 2.
For those unaware of the plot, Squid Game sees 456 people with financial issues take part in a battle royale-like contest. They all participate in children’s games, turned deadly, to be the last one standing and to win 46.5 billion Korean won (~$34 million). Season 2 is going to continue the story and reveal unanswered questions related to the game, the Front Man and his brother, and more.
Squid Game Season 2 is coming later this year to Netflix. The exact release is still under wraps, but we will inform you once we get any official details. Stay tuned!
