While we were getting ready to don our Karasuno jerseys after three whole years, Haikyu author Haruichi Furudate blessed us with a new one-shot. Yes, you read that right. We’ve got new Haikyu manga material and that too from Nekoma’s perspective.
As per the X post (formerly tweet) from the official account, the one-shot manga chapter has been released to celebrate the release of the upcoming movie. Releasing in Japan on 16th February, Haikyu the Movie: The Battle at the Garbage Dump, will see Karasuno face their biggest rivals, Nekoma High, at the Tokyo Nationals volleyball championship. We will also see Shoyo and Kenma navigate their friendly rivalry in this movie.
It’s a the “cat vs crow” garbage dumpster battle we’ve all been waiting for since the two teams played those practice matches against one another in Season 2.
For those wondering, the one-shot focuses on Nobuyiki Kai’s nightmare. Yeah, nightmare. We see the conclusion of Karasuno vs Nekoma at the Nationals from Kai’s eyes. Then, we fast forward to the present, and Kai tells how he still gets nightmares about their rally with Karasuno. We have seen Kai, for those unaware, as Nekoma’s wing spiker who went toe to toe with Shoyo and his team.
So, before you go watch the new Haikyu movie, do give this one-shot chapter a read for a quick laugh. The movie is set to release on 16th February, 2024 in Japan. The release date for other regions is unknown at the time of writing.
