Programs, are you ready to get back on the grid? We are, and the first-ever teaser image for the upcoming movie, Tron: Ares, only makes us more excited to return to the world of Tron.
Yes, you heard it right. We have got our first look at Tron: Ares aka Tron 3 through Jared Leto. The American actor and musician took to social media (X and Instagram) to share a first look at his character, Ares. Yeah, Jared Leto is playing Ares in Tron 3. Leto also ends the debate about the movie’s name, officially referring to it as Tron: Ares.
The teaser image below gives us a sneak peek at a new red character donning a familiar suit from Tron. It instantly reminds me of Rinzler from the Tron: Legacy (2010) movie. But there’s a peculiar feature about this suit if you haven’t noticed it already. The disc on the back of Ares is triangular and not circular as we’ve seen in previous installments.
That’s intriguing, right? Why is the Tron suit red and what kind of ship is Ares exiting in this teaser image? Also, more importantly, why is the disc triangular? Is this an evolved form of an existing character, or is it another ISO like Quorra?
There are a lot of unanswered questions right now, and my head is swimming with more. A good thing is that the official synopsis for Tron: Ares is here, and it at least reveals that we are not setting up a new storyline. Check out the Tron 3 plotline:
Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.
officially revealed by Disney Studios
As revealed above, Tron: Ares is sort of picking up where its prequel Tron: Legacy left off, bringing an ISO in Quorra from the digital world to the real world. Ares will also make it out of the digital world. But the fact he is sent on a mission by someone, that someone most likely being Clu, is making me even more excited. What are your thoughts on this? Let me know in the comments.
I am also curious what characters the rest of the Tron: Ares cast members, including Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Jodie Lee, and others, will play in the movie. Well, more will be revealed in due time.
This official image comes about a month after we learned Tron 3 has started filming. Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning was the first to share an update, posting set photos with the Tron 3 logo on his personal Instagram. Tron 3, the sequel to Tron and Tron Legacy, is set to release in theaters in 2025.
We’ve got a long road ahead, so I’m gonna go prepare myself for a Light Cycle battle. Stay tuned for more updates.
