Apex Legends may be the best shooter game out today, but the game breaks too often for the community not to complain about it. Minor bugs are still acceptable; in fact, there are a number of issues that have plagued Respawn’s game for too long. However, it’s the recent update that caused the most discontent among the player base, as it was causing them to lose account progress. Some players even saw their Apex Legends accounts getting reset to Level 1, making them shudder at the loss of their efforts and beloved cosmetics.
The damage was huge and Respawn even had to shut down the game servers to resolve the account data loss issue. Though it took some time, the issue has now been fixed, the players who lost their progress have it back, coins and purchases made during downtime have also been awarded, and legends are back to playing the game.
Now that is all and good, but for an esports game to face such a major, widespread issue five years into its run doesn’t reflect too well on the developers. Moreover, it also doesn’t make the players all too happy to see their progress and hard work disappear ..just poof.. into thin air. Hence, to apologize for the inconvenience caused by the disastrous bug and the server downtime, Respawn has decided to give away 8 free Apex Packs to all players today.
As mentioned in the X post above, all players who log into their account between April 10 and April 24 until 10:00 AM PT will be eligible for the free Apex Packs. So, don’t forget to log into the game via Steam or the EA App to get the reward.
Even before Respawn made the official announcement, I had logged into Apex Legends to get a couple of games in and was baffled to see 8 Apex Packs available to open. So, I had to hop onto X (previously Twitter) to see if it was true or if was I hallucinating. It turned out to be true and some players even got super lucky with it.
Heirloom Shards is the most desired in-game currency in Apex Legends right now. But, the developer is about to dilute the Apex Packs loot pool with a new type of currency, which is leaked to be Exotic Shards. This currency is expected to arrive in the upcoming season, Season 21, which is also expected to add a new skirmisher legend named Alter, an update to Broken Moon, and tons of other changes.
