The next game in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise is now official, and it’s set to launch later this year in November. Called the Assassins’ Creed Shadows, the game will mark the series’ first trip to Feudal Japan, and it’ll feature two new protagonists named ‘Yasuke’ and ‘Naoe.’ You can watch the game’s trailer below:
The Assassin’s Creed Shadows — which was initially known as ‘Assassin’s Creed Red’ — will feature two playable protagonists when it launches on November 15. If that sounds familiar to you as an Assassin’s Creed fan, then that’s because it’s essentially similar to the dual-protagonist system that was also present in 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. That game was set in Victorian London and featured a dual-protagonist system made up of a male-female split, too.
As for the two protagonists in the Assassin’s Creed Shadows, one is a samurai named Yasuke, who is an African man that became a retainer in service to Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga. The other protagonist in the game is Naoe, who is a shinobi that goes against Yasuke at first due to her roots in Nobunaga’s opposition.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, in case you don’t know, allowed its players to switch between its two protagonists Jacob and Evie Frye any time in the game, offering the flexibility to tackle their objectives as they see fit. It’ll be interesting to see how the new game will handle the dual-protagonist system, but I’m pumped for it.
The Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and the Mac on November 15, 2024. All we have is a trailer for now, but I hope to learn more about it in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned. You can pre-order your copy of the game right now by heading over to Ubisoft’s website.
