Stellar Blade is an upcoming PlayStation-exclusive title that’s all set to release on April 26 on the PS5. It features a female protagonist named Eve that’s all the rage right now in the gaming space. Stellar Blade protagonist Eve is currently making rounds on the internet for her attractive appearance and outfits.
Of course, there’s more to her character — and the game in general — than just skin-tight latex bodysuit, as she seems like a very strong female protagonist with a deep narrative pieces and a strong game presence. If you are on the lookout for similar games featuring strong female protagonists, then I’ve highlighted a few handpicked titles for you below.
The Last of Us Part 2
You’ll love the evolution of Ellie Williams as a character
The Last of Us sequel puts you into the shoes of ‘Ellie Williams’ who is thrown into the world on her own and is forced to navigate her way through the adversities without Joel’s help. The original game only lets you play as Ellie in select quests, but the sequel stars a grown-up version of Ellie as the main protagonist.
Without getting into any spoilers, I am just going to say that you’ll have a great time playing as Ellie. In fact, those who have played the first game in the series would be pleasantly surprised by how she has matured over the years, and how some of the in-game events have shaped her as a strong character. Ellie, by the way, is not the only female character you play as in The Last of Us Part 2, as the game also makes you play as its main antagonist, Abbie.

Horizon Forbidden West
Aloy is just as strong as she is beautiful
Aloy is part of both the main game called Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel, the Horizon Forbidden West. The sequel, however, features a more matured version of Aloy who is, in my opinion, among the best female protagonists in games. In fact, I’d even say there are hardly any female protagonists out there that are better voiced or as well-crafted as Aloy. The folks over at Guerrilla Games really nailed it with this character, both in terms of the details in how she looks, and her other stats and attributes.
As much as I like the young and charming version of Aloy seen in Horizon Zero Dawn, I believe the more matured Aloy seen in the sequel is more well-rounded and better equipped to go against the beautiful post-apocalyptic world that’s filled with mean machines and humans will ill-intentions. I highly recommend playing this game if you want to fill the shoes of a strong, independent female protagonist, that grows stronger as you progress in the game.

Resident Evil 3 (2020)
Jill Valentine goes through a lot in Raccoon city
Jill Valentine is a central character in the Resident Evil video game series, and you get to play as her in Resident Evil 3 (2020). She is one of the most highly skilled and resilient protagonists the gaming world has ever seen, and she goes through a lot in the game. Jill, in case you are wondering, is a former member of the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) and a survivor of the zombie outbreak in Raccoon City. While playing as Jill in Resident Evil 3, you’ll essentially be running from a bio-weapon, trying to escape the city.
I’d describe playing as Jill Valentine to be nothing short of a roller coaster ride. I say that because you are not only tasked to make your way through the city using the diverse arsenal of weapons and the ability to strategically manage limited supplies, but you’ll also be piecing the narrative puzzle together to shape Jill’s fate through your decisions.
Available platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
No list involving female protagonist is complete without Lara Croft
This wouldn’t be a valid list without Lara Croft, right? She is one of the most iconic female protagonists to have ever graced our gaming system. Tomb Raider is a cult classic that’s been around for years, and its protagonist Lara has also evolved a lot over the years. Unlike the older version of Lara, who was skimpily-clothed in a crop-top and a small pair of denim shorts, her new incarnation looks significantly better in my opinion, with better clothes that’s more suitable for her adventures.
More than that, the new Lara is also both mentally and physically stronger to tackle the world and its hurdles. Her character has more narrative depth in the newer games, so I highly recommend playing those over the older Tomb Raider games. That being said, you can always visit the older Tomb Raider games to see how she has evolved the years, though. It doesn’t to hurt to try more games, does it?

Bonus pick: Grand Theft Auto 6
Lucia is franchise’s first female protagonist
GTA 6 is a bonus pick on this list right now simply because it’s not available yet. Rockstar Games has only announced the arrival of GTA 6, but we don’t know when. The studio says it’s currently schedule to arrive on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 next year. I am pretty positive that it’ll be a solid addition to this list once it comes out as it features Lucia, the franchise’s first female protagonist.
The GTA 6 trailer shows Lucia in a prison facility in the state of Leonida, talking about how she ended up there, to begin with. We don’t know much about her just yet as Rockstar Games hasn’t revealed any concrete info on the game or its characters, but she is speculated to be Hispanic and to be tied to a South American country. Lucia is shown spending time, wreaking havoc in the Vice City with Jason, who she is said to be her partner in crime.

Lots of great games with strong female protagonists
Those are some my top picks of the game that feature strong female characters. You may not see these characters wearing skin-tight bodysuits, but they’re all just as popular as Eve is, and they’ve all played a vital role in shaping the legacy of female protagonists in games. We don’t know much about my bonus pick — Lucia from GTA 6 — but I am hoping her to be just as vital to the franchise as other male protagonists have been.
