Contrary to what most people believe, Grand Theft Auto 6 and Cyberpunk 2077 don’t have a lot in common. I mean, yes, they’re both overly hyped games with a vast and interactive open-world map, but that’s where the similarities end. You’re essentially looking at two entirely different IPs, each with its own unique character design, art style, gameplay elements, and more.
That being said, there are some elements which both games can borrow from each other. If anything, there’s more that GTA 6 can borrow from Cyberpunk 2077 as the latter is already out and has some really cool features and in-game elements that I’d love to see in Rockstar Games’ upcoming GTA title.
Melee combat finishers
Melee combat needs to be better in GTA 6
Cyberpunk 2077 has some really cool weapons that are fun to takedown your foes with. The close range combat melee weapons, in particular, are extremely satisfying to use in that game, thanks to the fun combat finishers that CD Projekt Red added to it. I ended up using melee weapons more during my second playthrough of the game, and I honestly enjoyed it a lot more than the first time I finished it with ranged weapons for the most part.
I’d love it if Rockstar Games incorporated some fun melee combat finishers and animations in GTA 6. It would be a solid addition to the game, in my opinion; one that would make its combat even better. None of the titles in GTA franchise stand out for their weapon selection or combat style, and I believe it’s time Rockstar did something about that.
I would ideally like to see some sort of finishing move when you, say, takedown the last enemy of a group or a gang. Notably, there could even be some special animations when you perform stealth kills. Cyberpunk 2077 has a lot of these animations, and they also vary based on the weapon you’re using. From using the Manta Blades to slice your foes to literally grabbing and throwing them on one another to perform a gruesome takedown, there’s everything in Cyberpunk 2077. Here’s an age-restricted video I could find on YouTube that perfectly shows various finishers and animation in Cyberpunk 2077:
Since we’re talking about improving one of the most anticipated games of all time, I believe Rockstar could even take things up a notch and do something similar to what we’ve seen in games like Sleeping Dogs. I mention Sleeping Dogs because it does environmental kills the best, in my opinion. Rockstar could perhaps take some inspiration from it and place interactive items in the environment like trash cans, wooden canes, etc., which can be used during fights for some finishers. Here’s another video to showcase what I am talking about:
Long story short, there’s a lot that Rockstar Games can do to improve the combat in GTA 6, and I am hoping to see something radically different from what we’ve already seen in the existing GTA titles so far.
Alternate lifepaths
We need more than just alternate endings this time
A lot of GTA games have had alternate endings, so there’s a good chance the upcoming GTA 6 may also have multiple endings. But what I really want to see in GTA 6 is alternate lifepaths or multiple ways to progress the character’s journey. Instead of presenting an option towards the end of the game or for the final objective to alter the ending, how awesome would it be if a lot of the choices you make throughout the game — if not all —would affect how your story and the character progress through the game.
I thoroughly enjoyed the idea of choosing different lifepaths in Cyberpunk 2077 and how that affects various decisions you make through the game. In fact, I also liked how the lifepath unlocked different responses and objectives. I’ve already finished Cyberpunk 2077 as a ‘Nomad’ and a ‘Corpo,’ and I plan on doing another run some time soon as a ‘Street Kid,’ too.
It’ll be interesting to see if GTA 6 has some unique elements like this that could alter the course of the game, or at least affect how you progress. I would ideally like it if we get to take crucial story-defining decisions throughout the game, and not just towards the end or for the final objective.
Hoping for the best of Cyberpunk 2077 in GTA 6, and not the rest
There are plenty of other things that are great about Cyberpunk 2077, but not all of them are necessarily a good fit for GTA 6. Things like Cybernetics, hacking, Brain Dance, etc., have no place in GTA 6, in my opinion, at least not for the playable characters, so let’s just leave those parts in the Night City.
It remains to be seen what Rockstar Games has cooked for us this time around for its next big GTA title, and I honestly can’t wait. But it’s better to keep your expectations and excitement in check because we haven’t even seen the GTA 6 trailer 2 yet, let alone the game.
