I can’t believe I am typing this, but, yes, GTA 6 has reportedly entered the final stages of development, and it appears as though Rockstar Games is prepping for the final push. This news comes from gaming journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, who has obtained a copy of an email from Rockstar’s head of publishing, Jenn Kolbe.
The said email is essentially an announcement for Rockstar employees who are now expected to end their remote or hybrid workflow and return to the office five days a week, beginning in April. The email notes that the decision was made for “productivity and security reasons.”
Let’s hope Rockstar isn’t going to make its employees work harder than they need to
Rockstar has a history with crunch
I get the security angle, but I am not sure if I stand by the productivity reasoning. It makes it sound as if people who are working from home aren’t productive, which I am sure many like me would strongly disagree with. I hope Rockstar isn’t planning to make their employees push harder than can — or even need — to deliver this game on time. Rockstar Games has a history with crunch, and I hope it won’t let it become an issue again. The studio did say it’s working on improving its crunch culture, but I guess only time will tell.
Meanwhile, GTA 6 reaching the final stages of development doesn’t mean much to us, the consumers who are waiting for the game. Yes, it’s good to that it has exited the pre-production stage, but this final stage of development could even take years for all we know.
All I am trying to say is that the news about it reaching the final stages of development doesn’t mean it’s ready for prime time or anything. The GTA 6 release date still remains a mystery to us, and all we know is that it’s scheduled to arrive some time in 2025. Let’s hope the next news is about the GTA 6 trailer 2 or some other related announcement.
