The latest GTA 6 release date news reminds me of a famous Nate Diaz dialogue from his post fight interview after beating Conor McGregor at UFC 196.
Anyway, the point that I am trying to make here is that I saw this coming. Like seriously, you’re telling me that you weren’t expecting GTA 6 — a game that’s carrying so much weight on its shoulder — to get delayed?
Turns out Rockstar Games executives weren’t expecting a delay and they’re now concerned it could slip into 2026. Kotaku’s report cites the sources familiar with the project and says the game is facing a major delay after its development began “falling behind.”
GTA 6 release date could slip into 2026, and that’s okay
According to the report, Rockstar’s higher-ups are said to be concerned about the studio’s ability to wrap up Grand Theft Auto 6 development in time, without letting it slip into 2026. This is said to be the reason why the studio reportedly wants its employees to return to office starting in April 2024.
There’s no official confirmation on the game’s delay from Rockstar, so this is just a speculation at this point. But given Rockstar’s unwillingness to commit to a particular release date makes me believe that they’re probably not where should be in their development cycle.
That being said, I’d be totally fine with the game slipping into 2026 or beyond, if that’s what it’s going to take for us to get a polished experience. The last thing I want is for Rockstar to pull a CD Projekt Red, and deliver an unfinished product only to take three years to polish via post-launch updates.
Rockstar Games is yet to release the second trailer for GTA 6 as well, and there’s no way to tell if it plans to do it anytime soon. The only official piece of information we have for now is that the game is scheduled to release some time in 2025, and it will be playable on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S.
