It’s not uncommon of rumor mills or speculators to churn out information on something ahead of time, but I believe we are a little too early on GTA 7 news. Reading anything on the internet about GTA 7 wasn’t on my Bingo card for the year, yet here we are. So where is all the GTA 7 news coming from?
Well, Take Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick jokingly mentioned GTA 7 in one of his recent interviews, and that’s exactly what the fuss is all about. He was essentially being asked about the increasing gap between Rockstar Games’ titles, and that’s when he jokingly interrupted the host with “GTA 7?”
There’s not much to look into it, and Zelnick just pulled a well-timed, yet completely unecessary joke. In fact, him mentioning GTA 7 doesn’t even mean anything, at least not in this context. If anything, the only key takeaway from that part of the interview is Zelnick highlighting how GTA 6 didn’t exactly take 12 full years to complete, and that GTA Online’s on-going development slowed things down quite a bit as Rockstar Games had to transition from being a label that made big, standalone, monolithic games to now handling a massive, money-making live service machine.
Does that means we’ll have to wait for another 12 years — if not longer — for GTA 7 to arrive after GTA 6 releases next year? Probably, but it’s also entirely possible that we may never see another GTA game. Truthfully, it’s very early to talk about GTA 7 while we’re still waiting for a GTA 6 release date. All we know for now is that GTA 6 is said to arrive some time next year, and that’s pretty much the only thing that matters at the moment.
I’m sure Take Two Interactive wants to ride the GTA 6 hype train a little longer, considering the initial reveal trailer from last year is still going strong, racking millions of views every week to this date. You can watch it below, if you haven’t already. I have my eyes peeled for more GTA 6 info along with pre-order details soon, so ignore these GTA 7 rumors for now and stay tuned for some concrete info on Grand Theft Auto 6.
