Helldivers 2 is a living and breathing example of how great live-service games can be when they’re executed well. It has all the hallmarks of a successful online community-driven IP, and I am yet to see a dull moment in this game. It really shows how capable Sony is at handling a live-service game.
I may not have a lot of hours in Helldivers 2, but it’s got so much heart that it has me super excited about Sony’s unannounced live-service IP. I am talking about the game which Sony’s Bend Studio is working on. This studio, in case you don’t know, is the same one that made titles like Days Gone and Syphon Filter. They’re both solid games, and I highly recommend checking them out if you’re looking to play something new.
We don’t know much about this new IP besides the fact that it’ll have some “open-world elements” akin to Days Gone. Now, a new job listing has suggested that the Sony Bend Studio is working on a title with live-service elements. This listing was found by Game Rant on Bend Studio’s website. The listing specifically mentions that the “Lead Project Manager” applicant needs to be able to lead a team through the “key phases,” including live-services.
We were expecting this unannounced IP to have some sort of a multiplayer element, but this listing cements the fact that it’ll have live-service elements too. It’ll be interesting to see what Bend Studio is cooking behind the scenes. It’s not made by the same folks who are currently overlooking Helldivers 2, but I am pretty optimistic given Sony’s involvement in the game.
There’s no word on the game’s arrival as it hasn’t even been officially announced yet. In fact, we don’t even know when this particular listing was posted to the website, so it’s tough to predict how deep the studio is in its development.
