The long-awaited Horizon Forbidden West PC port was finally shipped out by Guerrilla Games earlier today. Aloy’s second adventure now being available on PC via Steam is great news, but what’s rather disappointing is the game getting cracked in mere seconds after its release.
That’s right, the Horizon Forbidden West PC port is said to have been cracked in just 30 seconds after its Steam’s launch. According to PC_Focus, a program called Fairlight was used to bypass the Steam DRM protection.
Horizon Forbidden West PC port uses Steam’s built-in DRM
Steam DRM is known to be fairly easy to crack
It’s not surprising to see a PlayStation game getting cracked on Steam, but what’s worth noting here is how quickly it was cracked. It’s honestly just as impressive as it is anoying. Annoying and frustrating because, well, it’s never fun to see games getting cracked and distributed for free. I say impressive because I’ve never seen a game getting cracked so quickly before.
Horizon Forbidden West, in case you are wondering, doesn’t come with any DRM-protection like Denuvo, and it only relied on Steam’s built-in DRM. The Steam DRM isn’t known to be very impressive, and I’d be lying I said I didn’t see this coming.
It goes without saying that you should buy the game from Steam and play it the way the folks over at Guerrilla Games intended it to be played. It’s fairly easy to download cracked copies of the game, but keep in mind that they won’t receive automatic game updates and performance patches, among other things. Above everything, just don’t be a weirdo and pay for your games, seriously.
For those who are planning to buy the game from Steam, make sure your PC is capable of running it at optimum settings for a good experience. Horizon Forbidden West system requirements are a bit on the higher side, and you’ll need something as capable as an RTX 4080 to experience the game’s graphics in 4K.
