Apex Legends has long offered heirlooms as well as mythic skins for specific legends. But, with Season 20, Respawn Entertainment added an all-new universal heirloom type dubbed Apex Artifacts. To start with, players got the Cobalt Katar as part of the “Shadow Society” event, enabling them to equip an heirloom on any legend they desire. This was paired with a new Cobalt death box skin with gold accents and a skull design in Apex Legend.
To make the Apex Artifacts more desirable for players, Respawn is introducing the ability to customize this universal heirloom in Apex Legends Season 21. Melee in style, show off your heirloom with a custom activation emote for each skin, and turn your enemies into a fashionable death box.
New death box skins in Season 21
Yes, each customization package for the Apex Artifact includes a base, a theme, a power source with an activation emote linked to it, and a custom death box skin. Season 21 will introduce five skins for the Katar that was added last season. Here are the custom skins for the death box coming to Apex Legends in Season 21:
Among the lot, my favorite death box skin is Nitride, which boasts a corrupted Voidwalker design (an angular design with ferrofluid veins on the sides that seems to be inspired by Catalyst). The only other death box skin that I’d love to unlock, for which I will need to buy Exotic Shards with real-world money, is the Electrum. It brings a futuristic vault-like vibe, making me feel like I’ve sent my foes back to the prison lobby.
“With the assistance (and insistence) of Rampart herself, the Katars were created with the ability to be modded for customization to each wielder’s preference—that means you. The Legends have their heirlooms, and now you have something that’s yours,“ says the official blog post.
Existing custom death box skins
Apart from the new skins we’ve shown above, Apex Legends already has two other death box skins in the game. The first death box skin, One-Winged Angel, arrived in-game with the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth crossover. I mean, as we wrote previously, it wasn’t the most liked event because of the annoying and overpowered Buster Sword in the game.
As we mentioned above, the second death box skin was part of the Cobalt Katar heirloom release in Season 20. You can choose from a variety of custom skins that the enemies will turn into when you finish them in-game. Which of these death box skins do you like best? Share your opinion in the comments section.
