The dark and gritty new version of Gotham with Robert Pattinson as Batman at its center was widely appreciated by all. Everyone was waiting for the sequel to arrive in 2025, but the latest reports indicate that The Batman 2 has been delayed by a whole year. Yep, we will have to wait until 2026 to see Pattinson don the Batman suit again and possibly face the Joker.
Moreover, we have an exact new release date for Batman – Part II. As per a report from The Wrap, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that the release date of Batman 2 has been pushed back to October 2, 2026. The film was originally set to release in October 2025.
What’s the reason for the delay, you ask? It’s kind of obvious. It’s just that the word has come out late. Though initially assumed that Batman Part 2 was safe from the numerous delays as a result of Hollywood’s SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023, sources reveal that delay in script development due to the strike led to the postponement.
Matt Reeves directed The Batman released back in March 2022 and starred Pattinson in the title role. The cast also included Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, among others. The movie shined at the Box Office; brought in ~$772 million globally and was termed a hit.
The sequel to the movie was announced merely a month later in April 2022. Now, due to the delay, we will have to wait almost five years to see Pattinson return to Gotham as the caped crusader.
In the meantime, if you want some dose of the DC universe, we are getting the sequel to Joker, Joker: Folie à Deux, in October later this year. It is a musical with Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as the Joker and Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn.
Furthermore, we will get to see James Gunn’s DC Universe (not part of the same universe as The Batman) make its debut with the release of Superman on July 11, 2025. Also, Gunn is working on a separate Batman movie as part of the DCU rumored to be called “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” which is coming sometime in 2026 or 2027.
So, while we await the caped crusader’s return, we have plenty of superhero movies lined up over the next two years.
