The fame and glory of the Grid is coming alive again with the upcoming Tron movie, titled Tron: Ares, in October next year. We did not have a release date when the next installment in the popular Tron series was announced earlier this year. We just knew Tron 3 will arrive in theatres sometime in 2025. Now, Walt Disney has officially announced the release date for Tron 3.
In an official Instagram post, director Joachim Rønning confirmed that Tron: Ares will be released on October 10, 2025. After close to 14 years, we finally have a release date for the much-anticipated follow-up to the existing two Tron movies — the original 1982 Tron and 2010 Tron: Legacy.
The late 2025 release date is in line with expectations for the 2025 release window of the upcoming Tron movie.
The announcement comes almost a month after we got our first look at Ares, the titular sentient AI portrayed by Jared Leto that moves from the digital world to the real world on an unknown mission. Recently, we even got hold of some set photos that gave us a peek at Leto in the signature red Ares suit shooting in front of what seems to be a new Encom building in Vancouver, Canada.
Alongside Tron 3, Walt Disney also revealed the release date for several other upcoming movies in its portfolio. First, we are getting one of my most-awaited Star Wars releases, The Mandalorian & Grogu, on May 22, 2026. It will be followed by Toy Story 5 on June 19, 2026, and Moana 2 on July 10, 2026.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and get hyped for 2026 releases just yet. For now, I can’t wait for October 2025 to come around sooner, so I can witness what the Tron universe will bring to the table. An AI coming to the real world sounds fun and exciting, but there’s a lot of skepticism as to how the computer world of Tron: Legacy which was designed to bring to us one of the best CGI works ever could match up to the real world. Will we get to see the Grid in Tron 3? Guess we will have to wait to find out.
Directed by Joachim Rønning, Tron: Ares has a star-studded ensemble with Jared Leto at the helm, along with Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Jodie Lee, and others.
